第24話『そういうものに、わたしはなりたい。』

猛暑の中、体調管理が大変ですね。僕は「暑い!」とは絶対に言わないようにしています。 とにかくネガティブな言葉は発しないのが一番いいかと。「うけたもう」と言って凌いでい ます。今日も 35 度の中、庭の草刈りです。
『次元を超える』は世界20カ国の映画祭をワールドツアー中です。僕はロッテルダム、フ ランクフルト、N Y、モントリオールに参加しました。どこの会場もソールドアウトです。 観客の反応は相変わらず賛否両論です。いつもそうです。映画祭は11月まで続きます。
日本での公開は10月17日。今回は規模が大きいので宣伝配給を他社に任せました。定期 的に新しいニュースがリリースされると思います。
ライブイベントも10月に開催します。発表は来週の27日になります。
『次元を超える』の公開直前に未公開の短編を3本+おまけをまとめた作品、『そういうも のに、わたしはなりたい。』が10月10日に決まりました。取り急ぎ、渋谷ユーロスペー スでの上映を決めました。 『次元』の完成するまで、修行をするように毎年撮影していた短編映画集となっています。 スマホや日常から離れて、村ぐるみの撮影隊で、修行をするような日々でした。この修行は 形を変えて続いていくと思っています。
豊田監督コメント
ひたむきに修行を続ける人たちと出会い、修行とは何かを考えた。 いくら考えても答えが出ないので映画を撮って答えを探した。 答えはいつまでも現れず、修行に終わりがないことを悟った。 僕たちは3年間に渡り、映画の修行を続けていた。 そして、それが僕たちの望む姿なのだと気がついた。 そういう者に、なりたかったのだと。 映画と映画館を愛する人たちに捧げます。

Episode 23: “That is What I Want to Become.”
It’s tough to take care of one’s health in this intense heat. Personally, I make it a rule never to say, “It’s hot!” I believe it’s best to avoid uttering negative words altogether. Instead, I respond with “I accept it” and endure. Even today, with temperatures at 35°C, I was out mowing the garden.
Transcending Dimensions is currently on a world tour, screening at film festivals in 20 countries. I personally attended screenings in Rotterdam, Frankfurt, New York,
and Montreal. Every venue has been sold out. As always, audience reactions have been split—some in praise, some in criticism. That’s how it always is. The festival circuit will continue until November.
The film will be released in Japan on October 17. Since this release is on a larger scale, I entrusted the publicity and distribution to another company. New updates will be announced periodically.
We will also hold a live event in October, with details to be announced on the 27th of next week.
Just before the release of Transcending Dimensions, a compilation of three unreleased short films plus a bonus work, That is What I Want to Become, has been set for release on October 10. Screenings will start at Eurospace in Shibuya. These short films were shot every year, almost as a form of training, in the years leading up to the completion of Transcending Dimensions. We left behind our smartphones and daily routines, filming with the whole village as a crew, living each day like an exercise in discipline. I believe this kind of “training” will continue in different forms.
Director’s Comment
Meeting people who earnestly devote themselves to training made me reflect on what “training” really means.No matter how hard I thought, no clear answer came—so I turned to filmmaking in search of one.
Yet the answer never appeared. Instead, I came to realize that training has no end. For three years, we continued our own training through cinema.And then, I realized—that is the form we had been seeking all along.That is what I wanted to become.
